Like every year, the month of September is devoted to the Spanish plastic arts and cultural industries. Apertura Madrid is the main event of this month and it is the biggest urban event of the Madrid art scene. The event takes place during three days in which Madrid’s contemporary art galleries hosting special program, events and on longer hours. The Apertura Madrid takes over the streets of Madrid, opening up across the entire city in galleries, museums, art spaces and cultural centers. Most of the events are open to the public and free of charge. One of this edition’s many novelties is Desayunarte, the brunch that will be offered on Saturday at all participating galleries. APERTURA’s guests will also be able to take part in the Gallery Walks. These guided tours will be taken each day around the districts in which the galleries congregate, allowing visitors an in depth view of the spaces and exhibitions.

sUMMA lOGOBesides the galleries’ weekend there are two art fairs taking place during this month. On September 10 to 13 the Summa contemporary art fair will take place in Matadero, one of Madrid’s most beautiful creative cultural centers. Summa is an art fair aimed at fostering the relationship between artists and the economics that surround their work. During the weekend you can attended and listen to lectures such as “The future of art of the future. How to collect new media?”. Talk by Marta Pérez: “The dilemma of the art market”. Speech by Juan Carlos Román: “Gourmet – collecting problems” and more. You can access the fair program here.

Estampa LogoThe Second art fair that will take place later on this month on 24-27 of September is Estampa. Since it started in 1993 this contemporary art fair has become a yearly gathering for galleries, editors and institutions that collect, promote and disseminate contemporary art publications. It is a professional fair that focuses on the different serialised art expressions, such as photography editing, etching, sculpture, video, digital art, and artists’ and photography books and records. Every year it exhibits the work of a guest artist. It also includes the “Temptations” section: an emerging art section that displays the most innovative editing and multiple art projects. For more details visit the fair’s website here.
