February in Madrid means Art!
The 34th edition of the International Contemporary Art Fair, ARCOmadrid, is about to open next week. The fair will open on Wednesday February 25 (for the professionals visitors and on Friday Feb 26 till Sunday, March 1, to the public).
Every February, ARCOmadrid brings together highlights of the international art scene. Madrid’s leading museums and art centers extend the offer beyond the halls at the fair itself by timing some of their most important exhibitions so that they coincide with ARCOmadrid.
ARCOmadrid focuses largely on contemporary works in different media and is a key international event for the Spanish art trade and a central point for sales and international exchanges for many Spanish art dealers. In total, 218 galleries from 29 countries will take part in ARCOmadrid which is a big financial contributor; ARCOmadrid generated an impact for Madrid and the Spanish economy worth over 100 million in induced revenue and attracts more than 100,000 visitors According to a report commissioned by the Fundación Arte y Mecenazgo (Art and Patronage Foundation).
Alongside participation by art galleries at ARCOmadrid, every year there is a focus to the art scene of a guest country. Colombia is this year guest country and they have prepared an ambitious programme of exhibitions and events aimed at presenting a broad representation of Colombian contemporary art.
This year ARCO collaborate with Artsy, one of the leading art online websites nowadays. As the Official Online Partner of ARCOmadrid, Artsy’s coverage includes over 1,000 artworks from ARCOmadrid exhibitors, artist info, as well as editorial content surrounding the fair.
