Engaging young professionals with art is, in many ways, a personal belief I have. I truly believe that art contributes to one’s life and can provide mental, emotional, social and intellectual experiences (You might want to read the post about art and management here).
I was happy to get the opportunity to organize a visit for international MBA students to a museum in Israel. These students were part of a professional delegation from Venture Lab in IE Business School.
Venture Lab is a startup accelerator for students located in Madrid, Spain, and known in the local startup ecosystem. The accelerator focuses mainly on tech and as such provides its students the opportunity to visit the leading startup hubs in the world: Silicon Valley and Tel-Aviv. This March the delegation visited Tel-Aviv to get to know the local startup ecosystem.
VentureLab visit to Petach Tikva Museum of Art
That was a great chance to organize a private tour for the students to Petach Tikva Museum of Art, one of the leading and most interesting museums in Israel (disclosure: I’m part of the museum’s board of trustees but don’t take my words for granted, see below what Monocle, the British magazine, wrote about the museum and its chief curator, Drorit Gur Arie).
The visit included not only a tour of the current exhibition but also “The Political Revisited – Politics of Otherness in Contemporary Israeli Art,” a lecture about the way Israeli artists are dealing with political circumstances.
“This is my sixth time to Israel and it was fantastic to do something different. As most of this group have never been here before it was excellent to get Avshalom Suliman’s (the co-curator of the exhibition) sincere, balanced and educated view of the political and economic situation in Israel today. We loved it,” said one of the participants. “I loved the exhibition that tells the deeper sides of Israel,” said another.

Best curator
Drorit Gur Arie at Israel’s tiny Petach Tikva Museum. Her exhibitions consistently challenge the traditional Israel narrative and local politics. She’s a risk-taker, one of the few in Israel giving minorities an opportunity to show their work, as in the recent show by Christian-Arab-Jewish artist Dor Guez.
